Groomed XC Trails: 39kms on two trail networks

Located at the base of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, the Dawn Mountain Nordic Centre features over 30km of groomed trails for all abilities. Host to the 2012 Canadian Masters Championships, Dawn Mountain and Golden are well known for cross country ski athletes and cross country ski enthusiasts alike. The Dawn Mountain Chalet is a heated day lodge offering a rental shop, a large staging area for lessons, and a warmup lounge for relaxation and recuperation. Trails at the Golden Golf Course are perfect for novice and intermediate alike, with smooth gentle gradients and sweeping views of the Columbia Valley.

UNGROOMED TERRAIN: Just outside of Golden, visit Cedar Lake and make your way through established, beautiful forests in the Moonraker Trail Network.  A 40-minute drive east of Golden, Yoho National Park has several cross-country skiing options. Emerald Lake offers beginner and intermediate trails across and around the lake surrounded by amazing vistas of the Rocky Mountains, while the more adventurous can choose to ski the 11km road to the famous Lake O’Hara. Yoho’s trails are generously maintained by the Kicking Horse Ski Club and Emerald Sports. The park is a natural area and travel is at your own risk. Parks Canada does not maintain or patrol these winter trails.
